Shelter of the Sky at Surfbeat Gallery

One of the things that makes the Funk Zone so special is all of the little hidden gems scattered throughout the neighborhood. You have to search for them, and when you find them you wish you had known about them earlier. Surfbeat is one of these gems. Tucked into a space well off the street, there is little chance that you would accidentally happen upon the place. You have to be in the know. And if you’re reading this: now you know.

See you there.

Marianne Romeo is a local photographer and co-founder of the Mural Project. She shoots all film and processes it by hand, rare in most photographers these days. She recently returned from a epic six month journey throughout Africa and parts of the Middle East where she painted murals, in conjunction with the women and children of local centers, in Kenya, Ethiopia and Israel. This show will feature stunning cyanotype portraits of the people of Africa and a slide show of her journey. The Mural Project is locally founded and funded and all sales directly support the next phase of the project. Refreshments will be served.
