For those who wanted to be at the last meeting but couldn’t…
The most important development was that we all committed to meeting once a month, on the 3rd Friday of each month at 2pm. For now we will meet at Muni, but if we get too big we’ll look elsewhere. Nick Presniakov volunteered his studio space in the back of the same building as a back up plan. So, mark your calendars.
I offered to give access to the Funk Zone website for any business that would like to place there own promotional materials there. Our site uses WordPress, and I’d be happy to set up a workshop to teach those who are interested. Just let me know.
We also talked about redesigning the Funk Zone map, and there was general agreement that all businesses should be included and that those businesses that pitched in to pay for the printing would get their logo printed on a sponsor section of the map. Clay Bodine and I will coordinate about getting the redesign done. Please help spread the word about the map, if there is any business that wants to opt out of the map please ask them to contact me. Please check out the Funk Zone Business Directory here: https://funkzone.net/funk-zone-directory/
We will use this as a reference for what to include in the map. If you see anything that needs to be changed, let me know.
We also got general agreement that we should do another Focus on the Funk Zone in October. Jeff Theimer from New Noise bought up the possibility of producing large musical event in the area that could coincide with Focus on the Funk Zone, and everyone seemed excited about the possible collaboration.
Dana Walters gave a brief update of the progress on the potential pedestrian paseo that would connect the Funk Zone parking lot with Anacapa St. I was quick to point out how important I think this project is and pledged any resources I could muster to help out.
Jon Berbaum offered to share some information of models of other collaborative communities that might provide inspiration for projects in the Funk Zone. Please reach out to Jon (email@example.com) for more information.
…I think that is about it. If you think I’ve missed anything, please send me an email with the addition/correction. I’ll wait a couple of days to see if there are any additions before I post this to the Funk Zone website.
Thanks to those who made it, and I hope to see the rest of you soon. OUR NEXT MEETING IS MARCH 15th, 2pm at Muni.
