Artist Talk – This Saturday
March 22, 2-3pm
Until the end of the month, wall space gallery is featuring Atomic Overlook by Los Angeles-based photographer Clay Lipsky. His work is clever, cool, technically beautiful, and thought-provoking. Come meet the artist Ted Mills of the Santa Barbara News-Press called the “snarkiest” of our current exhibitors!
In our stairwell exhibition space, Americans train a tourist’s gaze on the spectacle of a-bomb testing. Lipsky’s photomontages blend 1950’s military photographs with contemporary scenes of agape vacationers. Darkly humorous, clear-eyed, and voyeuristic in its own right, this series challenges us to rehistoricize both the atomic era and our own moment. Question and answer period to follow Clay’s talk.
